Technologist for Material Interface Characterization

IIT (www.iit.it) invites qualified senior applicants to submit their CV for a Technologist position within the Centre for Advanced HealthCare IIT@CRIB, Italy.

The winning candidate will facilitate the use and development of equipment for materials surface characterization including XPS, NMR, two AFMs, Gi-SAXS, micro-FT-IR/PM-IRRAS, RAMAN, HPCL/MS, SPR, ellipsometer, and other equipment related to both biochemical synthesis and  material functionalization, including two systems for liquids handling and deposition, an automated peptide synthesizer according to the scientific needs of IIT.

We seek outstanding creative candidates to develop research programs that impact the area of sensing and diagnostic materials, with particular attention to polymeric materials for bio-detection.

Your profile: ideal candidates have a wide experience, with at least 5 years of post-doctoral activity demonstrated by an established track record of publications in chemical bioconjugation, polymer surface modifications and physical- and chemical- characterizations of materials interface (AFM, IR, RAMAN, XPS, QCM, SPR). 

Moreover, they must have gained experience in biomolecule conjugation and presentation at material interfaces, polymers modifications and hydrogels for applications in sensing and diagnostics.

Tasks and responsibilities of the technologist will include:

  • Coordination and supervision of the instrumentation, infrastructure and technical staff of the labs;
  • Organization of the lab activity, managing of project schedule;
  • Selection, purchase, installation and commissioning of new equipment;
  • Tutoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students;
  • Fostering and coordinating collaborations with industrial partner and technology transfer.

A PhD in Materials Science or Biomedical Engineering or related field is requested.

Fluency in English is essential.

A post-doctoral research position is available to support the research activities carried out on the development of novel scaffolds.

The successful candidate will work at IIT@CRIB’s laboratory on the development of novel scaffolds structures for cell and tissue guidance capable of controlling, directing and regulating in vivo and in vitro tissue growth.

The successful candidate will be involved in developing technology to realize cell scaffolding materials with molecular and structural features patterned at nanometric level. Foaming technology along with 3D printing approach will be optimized towards the realization of novel programmable materials capable of guiding the complex in vivo and in vitro

process of tissuegenesis.

The successful candidate has high-quality expertise in 3D scaffold preparation and characterization by means of the above mentioned techniques along with demonstrated knowledge in the field of microfluidic for polymer processing and scaffold building. Expertise in the development and implementation of clean and reliable techniques enabling precise control at both macro and nano-scales of chemical, morphological and structural features of scaffolds made of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers and composites will be a plus.

The ideal candidate should also have demonstrated knowledge in all aspects related to cell-materials interaction control and design, mechanical and morphological materials characterization, development and characterization of drug delivery foams and scaffolds for cell and tissue guidance, cell and tissue histological staining.

We seek a highly motivated and creative scientist, who enjoys an interdisciplinary, open and collaborative environment.

Candidates have a strong background in any of the following areas: supercritical CO2 processing and foaming, composites design and fabrication, supramolecular chemistry, clean manufacturing, drug delivery, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, characterization and quantification of cell-materials interactions, gene expression and DNA analysis,and can perform sample preparation, experimental design and data analysis autonomously.

The successful candidate will be involved in a challenging project and will be asked to realize hybrid systems through the combination of single strand DNA/RNA and aptamers with both organic and inorganic materials. The successful candidate has high-quality expertise in DNA synthesis and assembly, DNA complexes/assembly design and characterization, DNA morphological and topological investigation, fluorescence-based tools for assembly and target binding or reporting investigation.

We seek a highly motivated and creative scientist, who enjoys an interdisciplinary, open and collaborative environment. IIT@CRIB is looking for a highly motivated candidate capable of conducting an independent research to be involved in a project for the production of biopolymeric devices to be used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). He/she will be required to develop innovative approaches to produce nanotechnologies for the MRI.

Successful candidates have a PhD in Chemical or Material Engineer or a closely related subjects. In addition, they must have a qualified experience in the preparation of nanovesicles for application in biomedical imaging to improve image quality, increase signal to noise ratio and reduce the nephrotoxic effects.

As the post-doctoral position will be focused on interdisciplinary research activities in the field of nanotechnology and diagnostic imaging, successful candidates must also have prior experience and technical skills on both imaging techniques and innovative nanotechnology-based approaches.

Expertise in preparing emulsions by high pressure homogenization and microfluidic systems and conducting in vitro and in vivo relaxometry in terms of relaxation time analysis on biopolymeric nanosystems is required.

In addition, strong experience in characterization techniques applied on nanosystems and MRI, such as Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy – Stimulated Emission Depletion, Wide and Small Angle X- Ray, bench top relaxometer, diffusion measurements and Math Lab data analysis is also required. Previous experience in research project management, ability to conduct independent research and to lead a research team will also be positively evaluated.
