Post doc in the area of smart materials - single particle measurements in microfluidics devices

The IIT Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB), Naples, uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

1 Post doctoral position is available at CABHC@CRIB for highly motivated candidates in an optofluidics project aiming at integrating optical measurements (light scattering and imaging) of micro- and nanoparticles in microfluidics flow. In particular the project will address the fabrication of novel optofluidics stations for quantitative measurements, at single particle level, of geometrical and optical properties of nano- and micro- objects while flowing in microconfined geometries at low Reynolds number.

Great emphasis will be given to the control of flow conditions within the micro-channel by using complex fluids with visco-elestic features and to the tracking of the microparticles properties along the channel. The research activities will focus on design and fabrication of ad-hoc designed instrument for integration of optical measurements in properly designed microfluidics channel.

The ideal candidate should have a consolidated experience in optical techniques (DLS, SLS, SALS), rheology of complex fluids, materials design and processing.

Candidates who hold a PhD in Material Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The candidate will undertake research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including, among others, Optical rheometers, 3D light scattering, multiphoton and STED microscopes, SEM, TEM and AFM, ellipsometer and Raman spectrometer.

Applications are invited for the following position:

1 post-doctoral position (max 2 year experience) is available for a highly motivated candidate in the field of microfabrication and microfluidics devoted to the development of diagnostic tools.

The research activity is part of MICROMAP PON project granted by MIUR, included in D4 platform at CABHC@CRIB in Naples and focuses on the exploitation of a proprietary technology to target/detect prognostic/diagnostic biomolecules.

In detail, the candidate will be involved in microfabrication, material processing and characterization as well as set-up and assessment of microfluidic devices for diagnostic applications. The activity will be supported by a whole tool of state-of-the-art techniques including micromilling, laser 2D, ICP-RIE, metal evaporator, as well as  cryo-TEM, SEM, XPS, FTIR-ATR, micro-RAMAN and ellipsometer .

The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in chemical or materials engineering or discipline related to lab-on-chip applications; a past experience in microfluidics and/or microfabrication is also requested. Familiarity with PCR or other genetic testing in microfluidic devices will be considered preferential. A strong academic record and high motivation for creative research is required.

Position and salary will be commensurate to CV and experience of the candidate.

1 Post doctoral position is available at CABHC@CRIB for highly motivated candidates in a project aiming at the engineering of nano - or micrometric materials that encode biological strategies to self assembly. In particular the project will address the fabrication of materials obtained by the assembly of polymeric micro- and nano-particles mediated by specifically engineered biomolecules.

Great emphasis will be given to the definition and optimization of the recognition-mediated assembly of engineered micro- and nanoparticles through the use of the most advanced techniques of light-scattering, rheo-optics, confocal and electronic microscopy. The research activities will focus on design and fabrication of self-assembling [A1 bioinspired micro- and nanoparticles, along with an exhaustive characterization of their rheological, mechanical and structural stability.

The ideal candidate should have a consolidated experience in rheology of complex fluids, materials design and processing, and self-assembling [A2] materials.

Candidates who hold a PhD in Material Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
