The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia with headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. Current IIT scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has recently created an IIT-Network of centers at Italian research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento. The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB, Naples, uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

The CABHC@CRIB is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to be involved in a PON research project n° PON01_02469 entitled "Synthesis and characterization of nano bio-complex suitable for delivery in biological tissues".

The ideal candidate has a PhD in either Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Biotechnology or any related field, hands-on expertise in fluorescence microscopy, TEM, SEM, Dynamic light scattering, UV-visible spectroscopy, and in manipulating biological compounds (e.g. nucleic acids, proteins).

The successful candidate is highly motivated, enthusiastic, and fluent in English and possesses good interpersonal skills.

The post-doc scientist will take active part in the design of the synthetic protocol, preparation and characterization of nano bio-complex with particular interest in defining their physical parameters (size, surface charge), the bio-molecule payload, the stability in different environment (ionic strength, pH, temperature), and the conditions for "on demand" release of incorporated bio-molecules. Moreover, the researcher will eventually work on designing a route for stabilizing the bio-complex in order to gain insights into the mechanism of delivery in biological tissues.

The position is immediately available, the salary will depend on the candidate experience . Interested candidates should send a CV to Dr. Angela Cusano ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ), with the ref. number AC08TIC in the email object, , including the names of three referees and a letter of intent. The deadline for the application is October 31, 2012.

In order to comply with the Italian law (art. 23 of Privacy Law of the Italian Legislative Decree n. 196/03), we have to kindly ask the candidate to give his/her consent to allow IIT to process his/her personal data.

We inform you that the information you provided will be used solely for the purpose of assessing your professional profile to meet the requirements of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.

Your data will be processed by Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, with headquarters in Genoa, Via Morego, 30, acting as the Data Holder, using computer and paper based means, observing the rules on protection of personal data, including those relating to the security of data.
