Post doc in Smart materials – Gene Activated Matrices


The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia ( with headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. Current IIT scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has recently created an IIT-Network of centers at Italian research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento. The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB, Naples, uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

Applications are invited for the following post doctoral position:

Research in the area of smart materials – Gene Activated Matrices

1 Post doctoral position is available for highly motivated candidates in a project concerning the engineering of novel bioactive materials for biotechnological applications. In particular the project will deal with material mediated gene transfection.

Therefore, great emphasis will be given to the optimization of biochemical and biophysical features of the substrate in order to effectively promote gene transfection. The research activities will be focused on substrate design and fabrication, along with an exhaustive in vitro characterization of cellular responses. The activities are part of the Cell Instructive Materials research, within the Smart Materials platform at the CABHC@CRIB) in Naples.

The ideal candidate should have a consolidated experience in biomaterials design and processing, and in in vitro characterization of cellularized constructs, i.e. cell cultures, transfection, immunofluorescence, live microscopy.

Candidates who hold a PhD in Material Science and Technology, Engineering, Physics, Biotechnology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The candidate will undertake research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including, among others, multiphoton and STED microscopes, SEM, TEM and AFM, microCT scanner, ellipsometer and Raman spectrometer.

Position and salary will be commensurate to CV and experience of the candidate.
