Fellow position on "Preparation and characterization of microneedles by electro-drawing"

The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT – with headquarters in Genoa (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. IIT has created an IIT-Network of centers at Italian research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Trento and Rome.

The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB; Naples, Italy) uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.
We invite applications for one Fellow position on "Preparation and characterization of microneedles by electro-drawing".

The candidate will be responsible for producing polymer microneedles by means of an electro-drawing method. Different formulations will be tried in order to tune porosity, degradation and release kinetics. Moreover, one main objective will be the proof of direct production in parallel of an array of at least 100 microneedles by optimizing uniformity of polymer droplets reservoirs and by dealing with the proper set up of production including stages and optical equipments. From the characterization point of view, indentation tests in skin substrates and release tests both in gelatine and in skin will be performed. 

The ideal candidate is a fellow with a background in:
  • biomaterials
  • morphological analysis (e.g. confocal and electronic microscopy) 
  • PhD in one of the following or related areas is recommended, but not compulsory: Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering.
Optional expertise: previous experience with microfabrication and even better in polymer microneedles fabrication.
