Fellow – EHS area – Drug delivery at CABHC@CRIB, Naples

BC: 69462

The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (www.iit.it) with headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. Current IIT scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has created an IIT-Network of centers at Italian research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento.

The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB), Naples, uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

The CABHC@CRIB is looking for a fellow to be involved in a research project entitled "Rational design of nanocarriers for drug delivery".

The project aims at designing and characterizing nanocarriers for the on-demand delivery of anti-cancer drugs. In particular, the research activities will focus on all the steps involved in the biological characterization of the nanocarriers, from the drug release kinetic, cytotoxicity, cellular uptake and intracellular distribution.

The research activities are part of the "Theranostic engineered nanoparticles" (TENs) project - within the EHS platform at the CABHC@CRIB in Naples.

Candidates who hold a PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Material Science or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate should have a consolidated experience in nanotoxicology (with particular attention to primary and cancer cell cultures in 2D and 3D systems, cytotoxicity assays, brightfield and fluorescence microscopy, biological sample preparation for transmission and electron microscopy, as well as in nanoparticles’ physico-chemical characterization) is fluent in English and possesses good interpersonal skills.

Expertise on molecular biology will also be taken in great consideration.

The fellow will undertake research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including, cell culture facilities, multiphoton and STED microscopy, dynamic light scattering, SEM, TEM, atomic force microscopy, real time PCR.

Position and salary will be commensurate to the CV and the experience of the candidate.

Applications containing a motivation letter and a short CV should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. indicating "FELLOW EHS" in the email subject.

Please apply before March 25, 2014.
