Post doc in the area of smart materials – in vitro engineered biological tissues

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) with its headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. The current IIT scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT relies on a network of subsidiary research centers operating within major research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento.

The IIT Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB)Naples, uses cutting-edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for biomedical applications. One Post doctoral position is available at CABHC@CRIB for highly motivated candidates in the area of in vitro engineered biological tissues.

The project aims at producing in vitro replica of biological tissues/organ as 3D testing platforms in vitro for high throughput screening and tissue-on-chip (TOC) systems. Particular emphasis will be given to the integration of 3D tissue culture technology with conventional diagnostic and therapeutic approach towards the development of reliable and robust in vitro assays for scoring and validating treatment efficacy.

The ideal candidate should have a consolidated experience in cell extraction and culture, 3D tissue culturing technologies and organotypic culture, cell and tissue characterization, epithelial culture and assessment of epithelial barrier function along with good expertise in molecular, biochemical and histological techniques.

Candidates with a PhD in Biotechnology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The candidate will perform research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including, among others, Cell culture, RT-PCR, Cryo-microtome, Multiphoton and confocal microscopes, SEM and TEM.

Position and salary will be proportionate to the candidate’s CV and experience.
