Fellow – EHS area – Functional nanomaterials


Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia ( with its headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. Current IIT scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has created an IIT-Network of centers within Italian research institutions in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento. The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB), Naples, uses cutting edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

CABHC@CRIB is looking for a fellow to be involved in a research project in the area of nanotechnology.

The project aims at synthesizing functionalized nanomaterials (i.e. nanoparticles) with small bioactive molecules such as peptides to design innovative systems applicable in nanomedicine. In particular, research activities will focus on all the steps involving synthesis of bioactive molecules, development and optimization of protocols of bioconjugation to nanomaterials as well as their biological characterization.
Candidates with a degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, have experience in chemistry and biochemistry, be fluent in English and possess good interpersonal skills.

Expertise on peptide synthesis and cell biology will also be taken in great consideration.

The fellow will undertake research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including FTIR, RAMAN spectroscopy, automatized peptide synthesizer, multiphoton and STED microscopy, dynamic light scattering, SEM, TEM, atomic force microscopy and cell culture facilities.
