Post doctoral position in pathogens investigations by lab-on-chip tools for diagnostic applications

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) with its headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. IIT current scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has recently created an a network of subsidiary centers within Italian research institutions based in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Trento and Rome.

The Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB), Naples, uses cutting-edge technologies to engineer biologically inspired material platforms for applications in the biomedical sector.

1 post-doctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidate with max 5-year experience in biotechnology for the development of diagnostic tools by means of microfabrication and microfluidics.

The research activity is part of the MICROMAP PON project granted by MIUR, included in the D4 platform at CABHC@CRIB and focuses on the exploitation of a proprietary technology for genomic analysis in infectivologic applications.

In detail, the candidate will be involved in genetic and molecular characterization of viruses and bacteria in microfluidic devices for diagnostic applications.
The activity will be supported by a whole tool of state-of-the-art techniques and equipment including real-time PCR, nano-drop, spectrofluorimeters and confocal microscopies.

The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry or a discipline related to genomic characterization of pathogens; a past experience in materials and biomaterials is preferred.

Familiarity with PCR or other genetic testing in microfluidic devices will be preferential. A strong academic record and high motivation for creative research is required.
