Post-doc position in synthetic inorganic chemistry

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT- with its headquarters in Genova (Italy) is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy's technological competitiveness. Currently, IIT’s scientific program has a strong multidisciplinary character, merging expertise from different platforms from neuroscience to drug discovery, from nanotechnologies to computation.

IIT has recently created a network of centers within Italian research institutions based in Lecce, Milan, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Parma, Rome and Trento.

IIT Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare at CRIB (CABHC@CRIB- ), Naples, uses cutting-edge and proprietary technologies to engineer biologically inspired materials for applications in the biomedical sector.

A two-year post-doctoral position is available at CABHC@CRIB for highly motivated candidates in a project aiming at the synthesis and characterization of inorganic or organic/inorganic materials at nanoscale such as gold nanoparticles from one side and Gd complexes for the functionalization of polymer or silica nanocapsule shells from the other side. Nanocomposites in polymer matrixes for enhanced electro-catalytic properties will also be prepared and characterized as prototypes in integrated device configurations.

The ideal candidate has a consolidated experience in the synthesis and characterization of metals and metal complexes at nanoscale. In particular the candidate has gained experience in spectroscopy techniques such as NMR, UV/Vis, IR and fluorescence. Previous experience in modeling results by numerical analysis will be considered an important plus..

Candidates with a PhD in Chemical Sciences, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemistry or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will carry out research activities in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for synthesis and characterization by NMR, UV/Vis, IR, fluorescence, electrochemical spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, AFM, confocal microscopy, etc.

Position and salary will be commensurate with CV and candidate’s experience.
